Overview
The Damask rose is considered one of the traditional products used since ancient times in Syria, and its use has been mentioned in ancient Arabic manuscripts to treat many diseases. Including chest, digestive, and skin diseases, as well as diseases that affect the mouth and pharynx. The Syrian Trust for Development made great efforts to register the use of the Damask rose in the World Intangible Heritage in 2019 UNESCO. We, as researchers, have shed light on the therapeutic uses associated with oral diseases, by studying their therapeutic effects for some diseases that affect the oral cavity.
The research was divided into three main sections: 1- At the agricultural level: to determine the type that contains the most effective compounds and focus on the most appropriate conditions to obtain a good crop. 2- At the pharmaceutical level: to determine the chemical composition of rose water and its extracts by chromatographic analysis methods, as well as the best way to prepare pharmaceutical forms suitable for oral use, as well as ideal preservation methods, and in vitro tests for the content of phenolic substances, volatile oil, and antioxidant effects; The antibacterial effects on a group of bacteria isolated from patient isolates, and a comparison of the effects with standard antibiotics such as streptomycin, metronidazole, and others. 3- On the medical level: A clinical study was conducted on volunteer patients with oral bacterial infections, mucous membrane infections, aphthae, and gum recession, and we are currently evaluating the effects on tissues after transplantation.
This product also contains an extract of pistachio shells, which is also rich in phenolic and colic compounds that play a hemostatic role for oral bleeding. It contains an extract of pistachio tree gum, which is also considered an antiseptic. The preparation is also characterized by its effective mouth freshener, which helps in eliminating unpleasant odors from the mouth.
Uses of the preparation: 1- Hemostatic and tissue thickener to relieve oral infections and bleeding. 2- Antiseptic and antibacterial. 3- Mouth freshener.
It is also swallowable, so there will be no problem with its use in people with Down Syndrome as well as children.
