Overview

Simple and low cost mechanical based ventilator that meets the clinical functions needed for volume control ventilation with providing adjustable PEEP under all ventilating conditions taking into consideration important parameters (tidal volume, number of cycles, inspiration and expirations ratio, fraction of oxygen, airway pressure control, PEEP valve). This ventilator is designed and specialized for covid-19 patients that are suffering from respiratory distress.
Studying the working mechanism of mechanical ventilators and the efficiency of using the volume controlled mode for covid-19 patients. We setup our design based on this mode using a mechanical system (Piston) rather than using a compressor that is commonly used to deliver a fixed volume for the patient as he needs to support his respiration.
This mechanical system with medical pressure sensors and solenoids valves were controlled and programmed using an open source to ensure the delivery of the needed flow to the patient, taking into consideration the safety issues as well as the PEEP option.
We finished and successfully tested our prototype that can be used in emergency cases however we will work on developing it more in the upcoming days. our aim is to provide a ventilator that can be affordable anytime and anywhere for assisting respiration especially for Covid-19 patients in a way that all patients will be provided with needed clinical support without distinguishing any case. As a result, decreasing the mortality rate.
